Transformation through creativity

A little over a year ago the buildings at Dalukhanyo Pre-school were in desperate need of repairs and a fresh coat of paint. The LTPT Trust jumped in to raise funds to assist with some basic maintenance of the buildings. Our call for help to add some colour to the buildings also got the attention of See Saw Do, a social enterprise involved in several transformation projects in Langa. A couple of weeks ago, Dalukhanyo was selected as one of the beneficiaries of the Care and Share Initiative. Every year, Old Mutual dedicate two weeks towards giving back to communities. As part of this year’s initiative, and with the help of See Saw Do and 200 volunteers from Old Mutual, five Early Childhood Centres in Langa were transformed into bright and colourful spaces where children can be inspired to learn and play.

LTPT Trust visits Dalukhanyo

At the end of last year, Gordon and Pam Gaddes, founders of the LTPT Trust came out to Cape Town to spend some time at Dalukhanyo, and visit the Harvest of Hope project. The Trust has been continuously supporting Dalukhanyo since June 2011, and has assisted the school with various projects. During their visit various maintenance and plumbing issues were addressed and sorted out, paint was bought to add some colour to some of the buildings and playground, and new targets for 2012 were discussed.

Abalimi Bezekhaya teaches people how to create their own garden, grow - and potentially sell - their own vegetables, and feed their families. Through a series of programs, Abalimi helps to alleviate poverty, empower communities and promote a better state of wellbeing.

Lets add some colour!

The teachers and children at Dalukhanyo dream of being able to eventually rebuild their school and transform it into a space that will offer a safe and beautiful environment for the children to learn and play. But in reality there is still a lot that has to be done in terms of planning, approval and fundraising, and it will probably be a couple of years before the building project can be launched.
